Memory Culture

The German past is a burdensome one. But Germany, unlike other countries with troubling histories, seems able to recognize and reflect on that past in a public manner rarely seen elsewhere. This memory culture can permeate almost all aspects of Germany society, and in ways that continue to surprise and illuminate.
